What I learned about Menopause at the Beauty Expo 2025

I attended the panel discussion on perimenopause, menopause and skin at Beauty Expo, thinking I already had a good grasp on the topic. But sitting in that room, I realised just how much I didn’t know. I wanted to be there because this is exactly what so many of my clients are going through. Understanding the physical changes is essential in my work, but hearing about the mental and social impacts really left a mark on me.

I was shocked to learn that women can experience symptoms of perimenopause as early as their twenties and thirties. That was something I hadn’t considered before, and it really shifted my perspective. Up until now, I’d often thought about menopause as something my 50+ clients were dealing with, but a lot women could be navigating it much earlier than expected, and that awareness matters in how I approach my work.

Hearing about the hormonal shifts and how strongly they can affect a woman’s mental health was really insightful. It made me realise that wanting to feel better about your appearance isn’t as superficial as one might think, but it can be incredibly important during a time when confidence and control feel fragile. For some women, things like brow tattooing or other beauty treatments can become a small but powerful way of regaining that confidence.

As a beauty professional, this matters to me beyond the biological and physical aspects of my work. It’s about normalising the conversation, validating my clients, and treating each woman as an individual, not just a “life stage.” Everyone experiences menopause differently, and being informed helps me guide them thoughtfully. From now on, I’ll be investing more time into research and discussion on this topic so I can continue supporting my clients with knowledge, care, and confidence.
